Presentation

The 2nd Symposium on Fungal Genetics and Biology (SFGB), organized by researchers from the Institute of Biological Sciences at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), is an international scientific event dedicated to discussing recent advances in fungal genetics and biology. The program focuses on microorganisms that are important for human, animal, and plant health, as well as those with biotechnological relevance. The second edition will be held from June 17 to 19, 2026, in the Auditorium of the UFG Central Library, Samambaia Campus, in Goiânia - Goiás, Brazil.

Fungi stand out for their biotechnological potential and are a promising source of compounds of industrial, pharmaceutical, and environmental interest. Nevertheless, their biodiversity remains under-explored, highlighting the need for initiatives focused on the research and conservation of these organisms. At the same time, fungi are associated with various human infections. These diseases are often neglected and primarily affect vulnerable populations in developing countries, posing a significant global public health challenge.

The symposium aims to bring together researchers and students from Brazil and abroad to promote scientific exchange and high-quality academic training, and to strengthen national and international collaborations by disseminating recent research. The program will feature guest speakers from different countries, reflecting the international nature of the event and providing opportunities for interaction among experts in the field. This initiative is also aligned with strategic projects, such as the National Institute of Science and Technology on Pathogens of Neglected Human Diseases (NIST-PNHD) and the FunBioS network – “The Future of Biomass Fungi in the Midwest Region: Sustainability and Opportunities”, which promote and expand integration among research groups and advancing strategic studies in the field.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-being – of the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda, the 2nd SFGB seeks to contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge, the training of qualified human resources, and the visibility of scientific research on the national and international levels.

We look forward to welcoming you to Goiânia!
